Viento State Park Overview

Viento State Park B009

Viento State Park campground has 79 single-family campsites (56 with water/electric hookups in the National Scenic Area of the Columbia River Gorge. The campground is set up in in 3 loops for tents, trailers and RVs. Visitors and campers can expect to hear choo choo and toot toot horns throughout the day and night because the park is located next to a working railroad and Interstate 84.

The park and campground is set in a lush, forested area with access to small streams, the Columbia River and hiking/biking trails. The campground has drinking water, flush toilets and hot showers ($). Each campsite has a table, fire ring and grate. Firewood is also available for sale from the camp host.

Viento State Park – Area Recreation

Viento has a day-use area with easy access to the Columbia River. Windsurfers flock here because it has some of the best conditions in the Gorge. “Viento” is the Spanish word for “wind” in case you didn’t know.  Other outdoor recreation includes picnicking, hiking, biking, fishing and wildlife viewing. You can also hike or bike ride the historic Columbia River Highway (no longer a highway). This is now a 1-mile trail from Viento to Starvation creek.

Memaloose State Park is about 17 miles to the east and also along the Columbia River. Moss Creek Campground is also nice (north of the Columbia River).
