Comanche Park Campground Info Board

Comanche Park Campground has 35 spacious campsites set among towering ponderosa pines in the southern Black Hills National Forest. It’s also just 6.5 miles west of Custer, South Dakota and is the closest campground to Jewel Cave National Monument.

Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs. Each site has a parking spur (ranging in size from 28 to 62 feet), table, fire ring and grill.  There are no hookups. Campground amenities include drinking water (no RV fill ups), vault toilets and trash collection. Cell service is poor in the area.

Area Recreation & Activities

Outdoor recreation in the area includes hiking, mountain biking, OHV trail riding, horseback riding, picnicking stargazing and wildlife viewing.

Possible day trips include Custer State Park with its many buffalo and other wildlife, Crazy Horse Monument and Wind Cave National Park as well as Jewel Cave which is the second longest cave in the world at 159.29 miles. It features sparkling calcite crystals and other rare formations, as well as some of the largest concentrations of passageways in the world.

Other campgrounds in the area include Bismarck Lake, Oreville, Iron Creek Horse Camp, Cottonwood Springs, Cold Brook and Willow Creek Horse Camp.
