Fort Parker State Park Campground is next to the lake and has 35 single-family campsites (24 with electric hookups), 10 cabins, 4 group housing/barracks and 1 group camping area. The cabins don’t have beds or bathroom, but near to restroom with showers. Group barrack area also has dining hall, game room and dorms. Most campsites have nice shade. They also have a table, lantern post, food storage, fire ring and grate.

Campground amenities include drinking water, flush toilets, hot showers, a dump station and camp store. There’s also a playground group pavilion, recreation hall, nature center, ranger station and swimming beach. Canoe rentals are also available.

Fort Parker State Park – Area Recreation, Activities and Info

Outdoor recreation includes boating, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, swimming, hiking, biking, geocaching, picnicking and wildlife viewing. You can also explore the historic sites in the area.

Fort Parker was established in 1833 by the John Parker family. The fort was the site of a well-known Comanche Indian raid in May 1836, in which the Comanche captured 12-year old Cynthia Ann Parker. She was the mother of the last great Comanche chief, Quanah Parker.  Historic Springfield cemetery is located inside the state park.
