Galveston Island State Park Campground is located right along a sandy beach on the Gulf of Mexico and about an hour away from Houston. With both beach and bay sides, Galveston Island State Park offers campers easy access to a variety of water-related activities.
The campground has 120 campsites located on either the bay side or the beach side. On the beach side there are 58 sites with water & electric hookups that can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs. There are also 7 tent sites with electricity and 7 other tent sites with water hookups. Over on the bay side there are 20 sites with water & electric hookups that will work for tents, trailers and RVs. There are also 10 tent-only sites with water hookups and 10 other primitive sites (no hookups) for tents, trailers and RVs. Each site has a table, fire ring and grill. All tent sites also have a lantern post.
Galveston Island State Park Campground is open year round. Amenities include drinking water, restrooms (flush toilets), hot-water showers, trash collection and dump station. There’s also a State Park store, nature center, picnic shelter, canoe/kayak launch, fish cleaning station and an equestrian day use area.
Outdoor recreation in the area includes kayaking, paddle-boarding, swimming, hiking, biking, picnicking, fishing and wildlife viewing.
