Hueco Tanks State Park Overview
Hueco Tanks State Park Campground has 19 campsites adjacent to an impressive rock mountains in the Chihuahuan Desert. All sites have water & electric hookups. Each site also has a table, trash can and shade structure. The campground has an amphitheater, drinking water, flush toilets, showers ($) and a dump station.
The Park has miles of hiking trails, an interpretive center, picnic areas, gift shop (with WiFi) and ranger-led programs.
Guadalupe Mountains National Park is also located about 90 miles east.
Hueco Tanks State Park Area Recreation
Hueco Tanks State Park encompasses 860 acres and is named for the large natural rock basin or ‘huecos.” that have supplied trapped rainwater to dwellers and travelers for over 1000 years. It is also a famous rock climbing destination (primarily bouldering), a sacred place for Indian tribes, and historical site. Outdoor recreation includes rock climbing/bouldering, hiking, biking (paved roads only), picnicking, wildlife viewing and exploring the historic sites.
