Palmetto State Park campground has 37 single-family campsites located in a tropical forest and next to the San Marcos River. There are 17 sites water & electric hookups, 1 full hookup site and 19 other sites with water. One cabin and 1 group site are also available.
Campground amenities include drinking water, flush toilets, hot showers and a dump station. There’s also a camp store, playground and a group picnic shelter with a kitchen. Each campsite also has a table, fire ring and grate.
Named for the dwarf palmetto found in its swamps, this 289-acre riparian refuge resembles the tropics more than the surrounding brush country. This botanical wonderland attracts more than 200 bird species. A historic pump forces artesian water into a 1930s-era cistern and water tower for release into a swampy woodlands along a nature trail. The San Marcos River also flows through the park and offers kayaking, canoeing, tubing, swimming and fishing opportunities. Other activities include hiking, biking, picnicking and wildlife viewing.
