Palmetto State Park – Area Recreation & Info

Named for the dwarf palmetto found in its swamps, this 289-acre riparian refuge resembles the tropics more than the surrounding brush country. This botanical wonderland attracts more than 200 bird species. A historic pump forces artesian water into a 1930s-era cistern and water tower for release into a swampy woodlands along a nature trail. The San Marcos River also flows through the park and offers kayaking, canoeing, tubing, swimming and fishing opportunities. Other activities include hiking, biking, picnicking and wildlife viewing.
