Smith and Morehouse Campground has 34 campsites and is located just below the reservoir in a beautiful forest of conifer and aspen. Smith and Morehouse Creek also runs through the campground.
Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs. Camp roads and parking spurs are paved and range in size from 20 to 45 feet long.
The campground is generally open mid May to late October. Campground amenities include drinking water, vault toilets and trash collection. Firewood is also available to purchase from the camp host. Cell service is poor in the area.
Ledgefork Campground (73 campsites) is also just 2 miles away.
Outdoor recreation in the area includes boating, canoeing, kayaking, paddle-boarding, fishing, swimming, hiking, mountain biking and picnicking. Wildlife viewing is also great in the area with opportunities to see moose, deer and other forest creatures.
The reservoir is open to motorized boats, though a wake-less speed is enforced. A boat ramp is located on the northwest shore.
The 12-mile round-trip Smith and Morehouse Trail is also popular with hikers and backpackers. The trail begins in the campground and leads through forests, meadows and a marsh before spurring off to Erickson Basin and Island Lake.
