Big Meadows Campground is located in beautiful Shenandoah National Park and has 221 campsites in beautiful forest. Believe it or not there are also some big meadows close to the campground. The campground takes reservations spring through fall and is first-come first-served during the winter months.
There are 53 “walk to” campsites (tent only), with the others being just fine for trailers, RVs or tents. Group campsites are also available. There are no hookups, but each campsite has a table, fire ring and grill. Big Meadows campground has a laundry, drinking water, flush toilets, hot showers, dump station, camp store and a picnic area. Firewood is also available of sale at the campground. Cell service is poor in the area.
If you’re there in the spring you’ll be treated to a nice display of wildflowers and in the fall you’ll see some amazing fall colors. Popular hiking trails and waterfalls are within walking distance of the campground. And another bonus is that the campground is right off the famous Skyline Drive, which travels 105 miles north and south along the crest of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Three other Shenandoah National Park campgrounds that are worth a look include Lewis Mountain (31 campsites), Mathews Arm (166 campsites) and Loft Mountain (202 campsites). You might also like Seneca Shadows campground.
