Bolar Mountain Recreation Area Overview

Bolar Mountain Recreation Area has approximately 125 campsites (full hookups available) and is located next to beautiful Lake Moomaw.  Jackson River also flows in and out of the 2,530-acre lake.

The recreation area has 4 campgrounds including Sugar Ridge, Campground 1, Campground 2 and Campground 3. Each campground has “Prime” sites which have a view and/or direct access to the lake. Hookups are available at Campgrounds 1, 2 and 3.

The campground is generally open early May to early September. Amenities include drinking water, flush toilets, showers and trash collection. Dump stations are available at Campground 1 or Campground 2. Firewood is also available for purchase from the camp host. A boat ramp, trailer lot, dock and boat slips are located at the nearby Bolar Flat Marina.

Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs. Each site also has a parking spur, table, lantern post, fire ring and grill.

Bolar Mountain Recreation Area – Area Recreation & Activities

Outdoor recreation in the area includes boating, fishing, swimming, water sports, mountain biking, hiking, picnicking and wildlife viewing.

Other campgrounds in the area include McClintick Point, Coles Point, Lake Sherwood and Morris Hill.
