Loft Mountain Campground is the largest campground in Shenandoah National Park and sits atop Big Flat Mountain. There’s also a couple of nearby waterfalls and trails into Big Run Wilderness (no running allowed though – someone could get hurt). The campground has 205 single-family campsites that will accommodate tents, trailers and RVs. Group camping is also available.
Campground amenities include laundry, drinking water, flush toilets, hot showers, a campfire center and an RV dump station. Firewood is also available for sale from the camp host. Each campsite also has a table, fire ring and grill. Cell service is fair in the area.
Shenandoah National Park spans 300 square miles of the Blue Ridge Mountains in the southern Appalachians. The Park has over 500 miles of trails, including 101 miles of the Appalachian Trail. There are numerous creeks, lakes and waterfalls to explore. Outdoor recreation activities include camping, hiking, biking, fishing, exploring historic sites and wildlife viewing. The Park also has several visitor centers, bookstores, restaurants and exhibits.
Three other nice campgrounds to consider in Shenandoah National Park include Mathews Arm, Lewis Mountain and Big Meadows. Todd Lake Recreation Area campground is also nice.

2 of us plan to book a site at Loft Mountain this summer. I’ve read some sites have uneven terrain, making sleeping in a tent difficult. Anyone has a recommendation for a site you know has level ground and nice views, that is secluded?
My gosh, I love this campground! Very peaceful, great little campstore with showers also. Nice clean bathrooms. I love setting up my tent here and being near the AT trail, and other trails nearby. For $15.00 a night , that’s so cheap for the priceless views and peaceful beauty of the woods , and trails ! Love Loft!
Love this campsite but the picture numbers on here dont match the actual campsite lot numbers.
Hi Adam,
Thanks for the heads up. Looks like the renumbered some of the sites. We will try and get a photographer to reshoot Loft Mountain and the other campgrounds at Shenandoah National Park this fall.
The campsite numbers on here do not match the actual campground.
Hi Rachel,
Thanks for the heads up. Looks like they renumbered the campsites and didn’t tell us. I’ll have a photographer reshoot the campground later this year.
