Wilderness Road Overview

Wilderness Road C019

Wilderness Road Campground has 154 campsites and is located in the lush forests of the Appalachian Mountains in Cumberland Gap National Historic Park.

The campground is open year-round, with limited sites open during the winder season (mid-November to mid-March). Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs. There are 41 sites with (20-30-50 amp) electrical hookups and can accommodate vehicles up to 50 feet. Group camping is also available.

Campground amenities include drinking water, flush toilets, hot-water showers and a dump station. There’s also a visitor center, amphitheater, picnic areas, National Park store and exhibits.  Firewood is available for purchase at the park. Cell service is good.

Area Recreation & Activities

Outdoor recreation in the area includes hiking, backpacking, biking, horseback riding, photography, picnicking, wildlife viewing and exploring the historic & cultural sites. Guided tours are also available of the pioneer and Civil War areas including Gap Cave and the historic Hensley Settlement.
