Gifford Woods State Park campground has 23 tent/RV campsites, 20 lean-to sites and 4 cabins set among a beautiful forest of old-growth hardwood trees. This is a very popular area with hikers and the fall colors are amazing.
The campground has drinking water, flush toilets, hot showers ($), and a sanitary dump station. There are no hookups, but each campsite has a table, fire ring and grate.
Gifford Woods State Park has one of the few old-growth hardwood tree stands remaining in Vermont. The trees include sugar maple, beech, yellow birch, white ash and hemlock. The park also has a picnic area, horseshoe pit, volleyball and free WiFi area. A boat launch is also available to access Kent Pond where you can canoe, kayak and fish.
Other recreation in the area includes a few ski resorts, Green Mountain National Golf Course, Kinngton Adventure Center and visiting the historic towns of Rutland, Woodstock and Plymouth. You can also access the Appalachian Trail and Long Trail in the Green Mountain National Forest.
Coolidge State Park is also in the area. It’s about 16 miles south down by Plymouth and has 62 campsites.
