Silver Springs Campground has 55 campsites in an old-growth forest along the White River just outside the North Arch entrance to Mt. Rainer National Park. Several campsites are right on the banks of the river.
The campground is generally open mid May to mid September. Amenities include drinking water, vault toilets, flush toilets, overflow parking and trash collection. Firewood is also available to purchase from the camp host. Cell service is poor in the area.
Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs. Each site also has a parking spur (ranging in size from 20 to 47 feet), table, fire ring and grill. Hookups are not available. Double-family campsites include 9/10, 14/15, 40/41 and 48/49. The group picnic area (reservable) can accommodate up to 50 people.
Hiking and climbing top the list of recreational activities in the surrounding area. The 0.5-mile, accessible John Muir Nature Trail begins at nearby The Dalles Campground. Local Crystal Mountain Trail begins about five miles southwest of the campground. It climbs 1,600 feet in elevation through clear-cut areas and second-growth forest before breaking out to expansive views of the White River Valley and Mt. Rainier.
Wildlife in the area ranges from mountain goats in the higher elevations to porcupines and pine martens in the forests. Migratory birds and native fish find ample habitat in the varied ecosystems. The White River sustains populations of salmon and trout, making it a great spot for fishing. A natural spring flows through the campground as well.
Other campgrounds in the area include White River, Cougar Rock, Ohanapecosh, The Dalles and Lodgepole. Federation Forest State Park is also 15 miles away.
