Capitol Reef National Park Overview

Capitol Reef National Park is located in south-central Utah in the heart of red rock country. The park is a hidden treasure filled with cliffs, canyons, domes, and bridges in the Waterpocket Fold. The fold is a geologic monocline (a wrinkle on the earth) extending almost 100 miles.

The park has one developed campground (Fruita) and two primitive campgrounds. There are also many backcountry camping options (permits required). Group camping is also available.

Area Recreation & Activities

Capitol Reef National Park is an International Dark Sky Park offering amazing stargazing opportunities. Other activities include road tours, backpacking, hiking, horseback riding, rock climbing, picnicking and wildlife viewing.
