Canyonlands National Park

Canyonlands National Park Utah

Canyonlands National Park Overview

Canyonlands National Park is located in southeastern Utah and is known for its spectacular high-desert canyons carved by the Colorado River. It is also Utah’s largest national park with 337,598 remote acres to explore.

Visitors can explore flat-topped mesas at Island in the Sky, the tower rock pinnacles of the Needles, remote canyons of the Maze, Native American rock paintings at Horseshoe Canyon and even raft whitewater rapids through Cataract Canyon.

Other popular activities at the park include auto touring (on and off road), hiking, cycling, camping, stargazing, mountain biking, picnicking, photography and wildlife viewing.

Camping & Lodging

Canyonlands National Park has two developed campgrounds. Willow Flat campground is at Island in the Sky and has 12 single-family campsites (first-come first serve). It is open year-round and has toilets and trash collection. Each site also hasĀ  a table, fire ring and grill. There is no water at the campground but you can fill up at the visitor center (spring through fall). Cell service is not available.

The Needles campground also has 31 single-family campsites and 3 group sites. The campground is open year-round and sites are reservable mid-March through mid-November. Amenities include water (seasonal), vault toilets and trash collection. Cell service is not available.

Canyonlands also has an extensive backcountry where people can camp while backpacking, four-wheel driving, bicycling and rafting.
