Dinosaur National Monument Utah

Dinosaur National Monument Overview

Dinosaur National Monument is spread out along the Colorado and Utah border and includes over 210,000 acres.  The main attraction is dinosaur fossils found at various locations in the Monument, with over 1,500 bones still encased in the rock at the Dinosaur Quarry Exhibit Hall.

In addition to checking to those old bones, visitors can go whitewater rafting on the Yampa and Green Rivers, explore mountains and canyons, gaze on ancient Front rock art and see a variety of wildlife. There are also several hiking trails ranging from 1/2 mile to 8 miles. Off trail hiking is also okay within the Monument.

Camping

There are six campgrounds  including Green River (80 sites), Split Mountain Group (4 sites), Echo Park (17 sites),  Echo Park Group (1 site), Rainbow Park (4 sites), Deerlodge Park (7 sites), and Gates of Lodore (19 sites). You can also do some Backcountry camping (permits required).

Getting Around

The park does not have any bus/shuttle service. It is also closed to all types of all-terrain and off-road vehicles. Four paved roads and several dirt roads provide access in the park. Cell phone reception is spotty.

You can also visit the National Park Service website for more information.
