Shenandoah National Park Overview
Shenandoah National Park spans 300 square miles of the Blue Ridge Mountains in the southern Appalachians. The Park has over 500 miles of trails, including 101 miles of the Appalachian Trail. There are numerous creeks, lakes and waterfalls to explore. Outdoor recreation activities include camping, hiking, biking, fishing, exploring historic sites and wildlife viewing. The Park also has several visitor centers, bookstores, restaurants and exhibits.
Shenandoah National Park – Campgrounds
There are 4 campgrounds in the Park including Big Meadows, Lewis Mountain, Loft Mountain and Mathews Arm. Big Meadows has 221 campsites and is open early May to mid November. Lewis Mountain has 31 campsites and 15 cabins (open April to late Fall). Loft Mountain has 205 campsites and is open early May through October. Mathews Arm has 166 campsites and is also open early May through October. Backcountry camping is also available. Campgrounds do not have electric hookups, but all have water. Each campground also has a dump station, except Lewis Mountain.
