Cottonwood – Grand Canyon National Park Overview

Cottonwood Campground is about 7 miles down from the North Rim of the Grand Canyon and has about 15 campsites situated on both sides of the North Kaibab Trail. Bright Angel Creek is also nearby.  Potable drinking water is available from mid-May to mid-October. Vault toilets are also available. Campsites also have a table and a few have good shade from Cottonwood trees. Campfires are not permitted.

Backcountry permits are required to camp here. Other Grand Canyon backcountry campgrounds you may also consider include Bright Angel and Havasupai Gardens.

Area Recreation & Activities

Backpacking and hiking are the primary activities. Other fun stuff to do includes cooling off in the creek, stargazing, picnicking and wildlife viewing. Ribbon Falls is a popular day trip from the campground (1.6 miles). Phantom Ranch and Bright Angel Campground are about 7 miles down the canyon. The Colorado River is just another 1/2 mile beyond Bright Angel Campground.
