Auburn SRA Overview

Mineral Bar Campground Restroom

Auburn State Recreation has 3 campgrounds including Mineral Bar, Lake Clementine Boat-In and Ruck-A-Chucky. Mineral Bar (photos included here) has 15 developed campsites that are reservable. Ruck-A-Chucky has 5 (first-come, first-serve) campsites along the Middle Fork American River. Lake Clementine Boat-In campground has 15 primitive (tent only) campsites along the lake.

Mineral Bar’s 18 sites are open from early May to mid October, with 5 sites available mid-October through the end of April on a first-come, first-serve basis. The campground has drinking water and vault toilets. Each site also has a table, food storage locker/bear box, fire ring and grill. Only one vehicle is allowed per campsite. Pets/dogs are okay.

Lake Clementine boat-in campground is open early May through late September. Pack all trash out. Water is not available. No dogs/pets permitted. There is a 7-consecutive day camping limit. Each site also has a table, fire ring and grill.

Ruck-A-Chucky campground is open mid April through mid October. Amenities include trash collection and vault toilets. Potable (drinking) water is not available. Campers can stay up to 14-consecutive days. Pets/dogs are okay.  Each site also has a table fire ring and grill.

Area Recreation & Activities

The park (which is 20 miles long on two forks of the American River) is situated south of Interstate 80, stretching from Auburn to Colfax. The main access is from Auburn, either on Highway 49 or Foresthill Road.

In the heart of the gold country, the Auburn State Recreation Area (Auburn SRA) covers 40-miles of the North and Middle Forks of the American river. Once teeming with thousands of gold miners, the area is now a natural area offering a wide variety of recreation opportunities to over 900,000 visitors a year.

Outdoor recreation in the area includes hiking, river access, boating, fishing, camping, mountain biking, gold panning, limited hunting, equestrian/horseback riding trails and off-highway motorcycle riding. Whitewater recreation is also very popular on both forks of the river, with Class II, III, IV, and V runs. A raft launch is next to the campground.

Other campgrounds in the area include Orchard Springs Resort, Peninsula Family Campground and Shirttail Creek Family Campground is also about 12 miles away.
