Big Pine Canyon Recreation Area Overview

Big Pine Canyon Recreation Area View

Big Pine Canyon Recreation Area has 2 group campgrounds (Clyde Glacier Group and Palisade Glaicer Group) located along Big Pine Creek. The campgrounds are named for glaciers that can be seen at the end of the valley.

The group campgrounds can accommodate up to 25 people each. Clyde Glacier Group has 3 camping areas. Palisade Glacier Group has 1 camping area. Clyde allows 8 vehicles, with a trailer/RV maximum at 35 feet. Palisade allows up to 5 vehicles (up to 20 feet) and is for tent camping only.

Check in time is 2pm and check out is 1pm. Campsite areas also have tables, fire rings and grates. Drinking water and vault toilets are also available at each group campground.

You may also be interested in Big Pine Creek, Upper Sage Flat and Sage Flat campgrounds. All are in the area and offer single-family campsites.

Big Pine Canyon Recreation Area

Big Pine Canyon has the largest and southern most glaciers in the Sierra. Hikers and backpackers can reach the glaciers via the south or north fork trails. There are also a serious of impressive glacial lakes around 10,000 feet.  Other outdoor activities include fishing, picnicking, horseback riding and wildlife viewing.
