Bolsa Chica State Beach Campground California

Bolsa Chica State Beach Overview

Bolsa Chica State Beach 022

Bolsa Chica State Beach campground is right on one of the more popular beaches in Southern California about 1 mile north of the Huntington Beach Pier.  It has 57 campsites with water and power. You can only camp with “self-contained’ trailers and RVs (up to 40 feet) at the campground (no tents). The odd numbered sites (1-59) are beach front, and the even numbered sites (2-60) are off the beach (view of Pacific Coast Highway).

Amenities include flush toilets, indoor/outdoor showers and an RV dump station.  There are also basketball courts, picnic areas, a concession stand/restaurant and lifeguard station.

The camping fee includes 2 vehicles.  The 3rd vehicle will have an extra charge.  Your vehicles must also fit within the lines of the campsite.  There is a maximum overnight occupancy of 8 persons per campsite. Fire rings are available on the sand on a first-come first-served basis. You can also have a propane fire ring at your campsite. Generators are also not permitted at the campground.

Bolsa China State Beach – Area Recreation

Bolsa Chica State Beach is known for its softer surf, water sports, surf fishing, sand volleyball, sunbathing and soaking up the beach scene. The (surf) break is good for beginning surfers. Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve is also located just across the street.

Moro Campground at Crystal Cove State Park is another option. It has 59 campsites (29 with electric hookups) and is about 16 miles south on Pacific Coast Highway.

16 Comments on “Bolsa Chica State Beach”

  1. Can I bring my own, portable fire pit to the campground?

    • Hi Becky,
Not sure if you can, usually campgrounds allows it if it is a self contained fire pit. I recommend you call Bosla Chica State Beach directly at: 714 846-3460

  2. Mellody says:

Are bathrooms open 24 hours and any indoor showers?

  3. Lizette Tirado says:

Do you allow tent over the trucks for sleeping

  4. Annabel Alford says:

It is NORTH of Huntington pier, not south.

  5. Do I have to make a reservation before the day I’m going

    • Hi Sissi,
Pretty sure ReserveCalifornia doesn’t allow for day before reservations but you can give it a try. If there is availability at Bolsa Chica State Park you will be able to camp there w/o a reservation.

  6. frankie dixon says:

Can you “camp” in your suv?

  7. Does anyone know if there is a dishwashing sink at the bathrooms at Bolsa Chica?

    • There is no dishwashing sink, but there are two bathroom-like sinks with “push button” water faucets.

  8. It says the front row spots are 25’ max for trailers. Does that include the hitch? Or just the trailer itself?
