Mt. Pinos Campground is up in the cool mountain air and has 19 single-family campsites set among a forest of Jeffrey Pine at 7,800 feet in elevation. Many sites have beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.  The dark and clear night skies also offer great stargazing opportunities.

The spacious campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs. RVs and trailers over 25 feet are not recommended. Each site also has a paved parking spur, table, fire ring and grill. Campground amenities include vault toilets and trash collection. Water is not available. Cell service is good in the area.

Other campgrounds in the are area include McGill, Campo Alto and Chuchupate.

Mt. Pinos Campground – Area Recreation & Activities

Outdoor recreation includes hiking, mountain biking, stargazing, and picnicking. Wildlife viewing can also be good in the area.

You can ride your bicycle to the top of Mount Pinos or hike the Mount Pinos Trail, McGill exploration trail, or enjoy the views of the valleys below from your campsite.

Mount Pinos is considered to be one of the best star gazing locations in California due to its dark skies, extremely low light pollution and frequently clear skies. It is a favorite place for amateur astronomers. On a clear day, you can also see the entire San Joaquin Valley and the surrounding mountain ranges.

Mt. Pinos Nordic Base is also nearby. It has some great hiking/mountain biking trails, which are used for cross-country skiing in the winter.
