Point Reyes National Seashore Sky Camp Overview

Point Reyes National Seashore Sky Camp Water

Point Reyes National Seashore Sky Camp has 12 primitive tent-only (walk-in) campsites and located on the western side of Mt. Wittenberg. Parking for day and back-country use is at the Bear Valley Visitor center.  Exit Bear Valley Road (west) from Highway 1.

Sky Camp has a sweeping view of Drakes Bay and the surrounding hills of Point Reyes.  The hike to Sky Camp starts at the Sky Trialhead and continues for 1.5 miles (walk or bike) on a gradual uphill trail.

Amenities include drinking water and vault toilets. campsite also has a table and BBQ grill. Our favorite Sky Camp campsites are: 1, 2, 5, 11 and 12. Campsite #2 has two camping areas (2A and 2B) for groups.

All four back-country campgrounds can only be accessed by hiking, riding bikes or a horse. There is also a boat-in campground available on the westside of Tomales Bay.

Point Reyes National Seashore is located about an hour’s drive north from the San Francisco Bay area. The Seashore offers spectacular hiking and biking trails through dense forests and grasslands and along expansive sand beaches and coastline. There are also scenic drives to vistas with beautiful views of the rugged northern California coast. The Seashore has a visitor center, several historic sites – including the Point Reyes Lighthouse. There are also 150 miles of hiking/biking trails, several beaches, and amazing wildlife viewing.

The three other back-country campgrounds at Point Reyes National Seashore are: Wildcat Camp, Glen Camp, and Coast Camp.
