Angel of Shavano Campground PSICC Colorado

Angel of Shavano Overview

Angel of Shavano Campground has 20 first-come first-serve campsites and is next to the North Fork South Arkansas River in the Rocky Mountains. The area offers spectacular views of the surrounding mountains with aspen and spruce trees throughout the area. Group camping is also available at nearby Angel of Shavano Group Camp.

Campsites are best for tent camping (due to roads) but trailers and RVs (up to 30 feet) will work. A typical campsite in the campground can accommodate smaller RVs and pop-up campers but not large RVs with slide-outs. Each campsite has a parking spur, table, fire ring and grill. Amenities include drinking water (hand pump), vault toilets and trash collection. You can also purchase firewood from the camp host. Cell service is not available.

Dispersed camping spots may be found along 4×4 road FS 240 between Angel of Shavano and North Fork campgrounds.

Other campgrounds in the area include North Fork, Monarch Park, Cascade, Chalk Lake, Mount Princeton and Bootleg.

Area Recreation and Activities

Outdoor recreation in the area includes fishing, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, stargazing, picnicking and wildlife viewing.  The Colorado Trail also begins within the campground.

The city of Salida is also 30 minutes away, where visitors can take a scenic tram ride, experience a zip-line, play a round of mini golf or go whitewater rafting on the Arkansas River.
