Jumbo Overview

Jumbo 011

Jumbo Campground has 26 campsites (21 with electric hookups) and is located between Jumbo and Sunset Lakes on the northern slope of Colorado’s Grand Mesa (Mesa Lakes) Area. Most campsites have nice lake views and are within walking distance to thew water. The hilly terrain of the campground offers good privacy but is a bit challenging for drivers.

Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs (up to 60 feet). Each site also has a table, fire ring and grill. Campground amenities include drinking water, vault toilets and trash collection. Firewood is also available to purchase from the camp host. Cell service is fair.

Other campgrounds in the area include Island Lake, Little Bear, Cobbett Lake, Ward Lake, Spruce Grove and Crag Crest.

Area Recreation & Activities

Jumbo and Sunset Lakes are open to non-motorized watercraft and each are great for canoeing, kayaking and fishing. Other outdoor recreation in the area includes hiking, mountain biking, OHV trail riding, horseback riding, climbing, picnicking and wildlife viewing.

The Grand Mesa National Scenic and Historic Byway offers 63 miles of scenic driving as it climbs from the rugged canyon floor, up to the forested mesa tops at 11,000 feet. The road also passes sparkling lakes and meadows bursting with wildflowers. Many trailheads can be found along the byway. Grand Mesa Visitor Center is a short drive from the campground.
