San Luis Lakes State Wildlife Area Overview

San Luis Lakes Bathroom

San Luis Lakes State Wildlife Area (Mosca) campground has 51 electric hookup campsites with panoramic views of San Luis Lake, the surrounding Sangre de Cristo Mountain Range and the Great Sand Dunes. The campground is first-come, first-serve. All campsites are free, but you must have a valid fishing or hunters license.

The large campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs (up to 120 feet). In addition to the electrical hookups, each campsite has sheltered table, fire ring and grate. The campground has vault/pit toilets. There is no potable water – so bring your own drinking water, ice and firewood.

St Luis Lakes Wildlife Area is only about 20 minutes west of the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve and the area is a nice location to view wildlife including many types of birds. When San Luis Lake is full of water, visitors can enjoy fishing, motor boating, sailing, windsurfing and other water sports.

Great Sand Dunes National Park Pinyon Flats campground has 88 campsites. About half are first-come, first-serve and the others are reservable.
