Target Tree Overview

Target Tree Campground is located between Durango and Mancos (off Highway 160) and has 17 single-family campsites overlooking Thompson Park.

Campground amenities include potable (drinking) water, vault toilets and trash collection.  Firewood is also available to purchase from the camp host. Cell service is good. Generators are okay from 6am to 10pm.

Other nearby developed campgrounds include Kroeger and Snowslide.

Target Tree Campground – Area Recreation & Activities

This campground’s name refers to the Ute Indians’ use of the area to harvest sap and bark of ponderosa pines as food supplements. They also used trees for target practice. Scarred trees remain; a short trail leads to one, and historical markers explain their usage. Activities in the area include hiking, mountain biking, OHV trail riding, picnicking and wildlife viewing.
