  1. Moose lake state park campground…. what to say….. run of the mill. Nothing really special and not much really stands out here. The site we had (22e) was rather difficult to pull our 37 ft. motorhome into. There was a big bump that we had to go over to park. Water was easily accessible. Have yet to locate the dump station.
For the price we paid I have to say I expected a bit more, like maybe better roads, modern bath house, laundry facilities. They also have a lot of rules in this park like no gathering of firewood (?), no agate picking, along with the usual park rules.
The nice thing I saw that they have a place to put your recyclables. We don’t see that too often and we feel that is important for our environment.
All in all it was ok. Not great, not bad, petty run of the mill. If we ever get back to this area, I will look for a more accommodating place to rest our heads, but for now it is just ok.

    • Jean, your negatives are standard for MN State Parks. You will probably be disappointed in most of our parks. The roads are well maintained but often not paved and can be twisty thru the park. The bathrooms are adequate, but often older than private campgrounds. The “No collecting firewood” rule is standard – as is no moving firewood. No collecting rocks (agates are plentiful in this area of the state) is also standard. You cannot, in general, remove things from our state parks.

There is no dump station in the park, but there is one in town a few miles away.

  2. One of our favorite camping spots. Sites are well spaced apart, with most having privacy with foliage. The swimming beach is a highlight for us, classic sunny MN lake beach with plenty of shade for those of us who burn. Lake water is a nice warm temp and very clear.
Good fishing. Quiet campground. Excellent interpretive center with gates and other rock. Very friendly park rangers.
We also enjoy going into the town of Moose Lake for eats and small town shopping.
Highly recommend this park for a family camping trip.

  3. This campground is an easy drive from the Twin Cities and I tell friends it is a gateway camping experience. A family that is just getting into camping will love it here. There is a lake filled with fish, kayaks, and canoes and a multitude of trails for hiking. The crowning jewel is the agate museum, where you can see and learn about this beautiful gemstone. After learning about agates head out with the kids and find your own to start a life-long hobby.
