Van Meter State Park Campground Missouri

Van Meter State Park Overview

Van Meter 020

Van Meter State Park campground is open year-round and offers 22 campsites with electric hookups. Each campsite also has a table, fire ring and grill. Reservations can be made for stays during the on-season (April 15 through Oct. 31). Keep in mind that sites 5, 7, 9, 11 and 13 tend to hold extra water after heavy rains. First-come, first-served sites are also available.

The campground has vault toilets, hot showers, a dump station, trash collection and drinking water. Firewood is available for sale from the campground host.

Van Meter State Park features many historic and cultural sites of interest. These include several Native American burial grounds, the remains of an earthwork/fort, and the remnants of the Missouria village located at the Great Bend of the Missouri River. The Missouri’s American Indian Cultural Center is also located at the Park and offers displays and exhibits.

Outdoor recreation includes boating and fishing on the 18-acre lake, hiking, biking, picnicking and wildlife viewing. Van Meter State Park also has a playground and picnic/day use areas.

If you’re traveling east you may want to check out Finger Lakes State Park. It’s about 65 miles and has 35 campsites.
