Smokemont Campground is not in Tennessee. It’s in North Carolina. The map coming up on your website clearly shows this.
Hi Kim,
Thanks so much for pointing out the error. We have corrected it and now have Smokemont Campground in North Carolina!
We camped 6 nights in Smokemont Campground August 2017. The soothing sounds of the water running in the creeks could be heard throughout the campground. Highway sounds can be heard in section A.
Wanting to reserve group site for 16 people. Trail life troop sleeping in tents. I can’t get an answer at the number provided, only a fax tone. Can’t make reservations on the website. Any help would be appreciated. Date needed – Aug 2-3. Leaving on the 4th.

Is generators allowed during the day?
Hi Greg,
Generators can be used from 8am to 9pm at Smokemont campground.
Hi, This will be our first time visiting the Great Smokey mountain national park. Q? What are your more popular campgrounds? We can’t decide just by looking at the computer. Thank you
Our tent is 14’x10′ I didn’t realize there is a gravel pad when we booked our site. Do you think we will still be able to put our tent on our site?
Hi Catherine,
You should be fine!
Trying to book D27 at Smokemont but it appears to require a camper or trailer type of equipment. Is this site restricted?
Hi Paul, Smokemont campsite D27 is a standard non-electric site and can accommodate all types of equipment (trailer, popup, RV, 5th wheel, etc.), as well as tents. Tents need to be set up within the campsite area though.
Hi, I am wondering if the campsites can accommodate two tents? I am looking at site B33 tentatively. There will be four of us, two couples. Thanks!
Hi Joe,
Yes, you can have two tents and they will fit at Smokemont campsite B33. There’s a maximum of two vehicles and 6 people per site.
Trying to book a couple sites for this fall, any advice on sites that are near the river and good location for young children 4 – 6 year olds to play in?
Hi Kitty,
The closest campsites to the river at Smokemont campground include F2, F4, F6, F8, F34, F36, F38, F40, F42, F44 and F46. D41-45 and A3-7 are also fairly close. Can we fill our water holding tank on our RV inside the park
Hi Andy,
Not sure. I recommend calling the campground to confirm: 865 436-1200
Me and some friends are coming to this campground in march. I was wondering what kinds of fishing and things you can do during the time we are there
Hi David,
There is a lot of outdoor fun to be had at Smokemont Campground. The river offers some nice fishing (Brown Trout) and kayaking. There are also a lot of hiking trails with opportunities to see a variety of wildlife. And the campground has a flat, grassy area that is perfect for group activities like football, volleyball, or simply soaking up the sun.
Our tent is 14×14, would site B30 accommodate a tent that size? I see there is no tent pad at that site.
Hi Chris, Smokemont campsite B30 has a tent area size listed as 13×13. With that said, there looks to be enough extra room to fit your tent in that site.
Can you have a generator in areas B and D
Hi Alfred,
Generator use at Smokemont Campground is as follows:
Generator use is restricted to 8 AM to 8 PM. Some loops have generator free sections. When D and F Loops are CLOSED, Generator Use is allowed in A, B, and C Loops. When D and F Loops are OPEN, NO Generator Use is allowed in A, B and C Loops.
we will be arriving around midnight. Is there a code or anything that we need to know so we can get into the park.
I have reservations for loop D. That is a RV loop, right?
Hi Nancy,
Yes, the D-Loop campsites can accommodates RVs and trailers. Several sites in that loop can also have tent camping (in addition to trailer or RV).
Is this campground secure/have controlled access and patrolled?
I’m concerned about safety and security because of the high rise in crime everywhere.
If this campground isn’t, please tell me which one is.
Hi Adam,
Smokemont does not have controlled access (a entrance gate or guard), but there is a ranger station located at the campground. The ranger does occasionally patrol the campground/roads.

Are there trees available for a hammock at D033 site?
Hi Jon,
Unfortunately we don’t have anyone on site at Smokemont campground so we can’t confirm if campsite #D33 has trees that will work for a hammock. The campsite picture doesn’t show any. Maybe someone who stayed there recently can confirm.
